Student move-out clearance in Bath: a practical checklist

18 August 2026

Published

End-of-tenancy week gets expensive when every housemate assumes somebody else is dealing with the bulky items. Start with one shared list showing what belongs to the landlord, what is moving to a new address, what can be donated and what genuinely needs clearance.

Confirm what belongs with the property

Check the inventory before moving furniture or appliances. A desk, bed, fridge or microwave that came with the tenancy must normally stay unless the landlord or agent gives written instructions. Photograph the condition of furnished items before the final clean.

Separate usable items from waste

Clean, working household items may be suitable for donation or reuse, but acceptance changes with condition and available space, so arrange it in advance.

Upholstered furniture normally needs its fire-safety label intact before many reuse organisations can accept it.

Do not mix food, liquids, batteries or paint into bags of ordinary household contents. Tell us about them separately when requesting a clearance quote.

Book bulky-item removal before the final day

Mattresses, sofas and broken white goods are the items most likely to be left until the last minute. They also take up the most room. Send photos and quantities early so the vehicle space and disposal route can be planned rather than guessed on handover day.

We carry and load the items, so place them somewhere accessible but do not leave them on the pavement. Waste remains your responsibility until it is collected by a registered carrier, and fly-tipping can come back to the person who arranged it.

Use one final room-by-room check

Empty cupboards, loft spaces, sheds and the area behind large furniture.

Defrost and empty any appliance you own before it is moved or removed.

Keep keys, tenancy paperwork, meter readings and cleaning supplies out of the collection pile.

Send enough detail for an accurate quote

Photograph each group of items, mention the floor level and parking situation, and say whether the job is a move, a clearance or both. We can then price the right service and explain anything we cannot carry. For Bath student moves and licensed clearance, call us on 01225 690 300.
